Harvest Information

The growing season for the 2024 vintage in Franschhoek began with a cold, wet winter – replenishing groundwater and setting a solid foundation. This was followed by warm, dry and windy spring and summer conditions, which helped minimize disease pressure and ensured healthy, vigorous canopies. Crucially, January irrigation maintained vine balance during the driest stretch. While yields were modest across all three vineyard sites, the concentration and flavor integrity of the Merlot fruit were exceptional, resulting in wines of impressive purity and finesse.

Winemaking

The fruit is drawn from three distinct vineyard sites within Franschhoek, each contributing its own regional signature – from deep valley soils to cooler, elevated slopes. Vines across all blocks remained robust and healthy, benefiting from meticulous canopy management and low-yielding regimes. This optimizes balance and phenolic development, resulting in grapes that offer exceptional depth, varietal purity and terroir complexity.

Winemaker's Note

The grapes were carefully destemmed and retained as whole berries to preserve fruit integrity and enhance aromatic expression. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with punch-downs performed three times daily to ensure optimal colour, flavour, and tannin extraction. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was gently pressed and transferred to barrel for 12 months, 15% of which was new oak.
