Harvest Information

The 2023 winter leading into the 2024 vintage brought cool, wet conditions, supporting deep soil saturation and strong dormancy. A warm, dry, and often windy summer followed, with irrigation proving essential through January to maintain canopy health. While yields were lower across both regions, the grapes showed excellent concentration, balance and freshness.

Winemaking

This Chardonnay is crafted from vineyards in Franschhoek and Elgin — two cool-climate regions offering distinct advantages. Elgin’s elevated sites and maritime influence lend natural acidity and precision, while Franschhoek’s valley-floor vineyards add weight and ripe stone fruit complexity. The combination of diurnal temperature swings and attentive canopy management resulted in grapes with excellent phenolic ripeness and balanced acidity.

Winemaker's Note

Sourced from premium vineyards in Franschhoek and Elgin, half of the fruit was destemmed and crushed, while the remaining portion was whole-bunch pressed. The juice was settled before fermentation began in stainless steel tanks, continuing until 18° Balling, after which it was transferred to Austrian oak foudres (Stockingers) and 500L French oak barrels. Both fermentation and maturation took place in these vessels, developing layered complexity, refined texture and a harmonious integration of fruit and oak.

Cellaring

Ready for your enjoyment, the wine has great ageing potential for up to at least 2027.
