This is a full-bodied, spicy Syrah with fresh red fruit and intriguing savoury notes. Well-balanced acidity and tannins lend richness to the wine which has a lingering, complex finish.

Tasting Notes

This is a full-bodied, spicy Syrah with fresh red fruit and intriguing savoury notes. Well-balanced acidity and tannins lend richness to the wine which has a lingering, complex finish.

Winemaking

The grapes were handpicked and gently handled. We fermented the Syrah in small open bins with hand punch downs several times a day. The wine matured in French and Hungarian oak for a total of 14 months.
Total production 5,907 bottles.

Wine Information

As the drought in the Cape began to really bite in 2017, we were forced to change our grape source and incorporate grapes from a second vineyard into our Swartland Syrah. Our friend Jenny Metelerkamp produced the fine ink drawing for the label.

The Vineyard

The grapes came from two sites – Kasteelsig where the organic grapes are dry farmed and soil is primarily Glenrosa, a composite of decomposed shale with a little granite, and Leeuwenkuil, with similar soils and vines over 25 years old. Sustainable farming
practices are used.
